Through the hilly expanses of the old vineyards and olive groves that characterise the splendid Chianti territory, we reach Greve. Wander around the open galleries, arcades and characteristic shops before continuing to Castellina, a typical ancient hamlet perched on a hill. Just outside the village is one of the most famous vineyards of the area, where you’ll be guided through the local wines, extra virgin olive oil on Tuscan bread and lavender honey.
Heading along panoramic roads we see the stunning village of Monteriggioni, a small medieval jewel surrounded by standing ancient walls. Further ahead the unmistakable clay landscape of Crete Senesi comes into view before reaching the lush green landscapes of Val d'Orcia, where hills dotted with cypresses, interrupted by castles, churches, ancient villages unfold before your eyes.
At an historic farm you’ll be served a lunch with a tasting of the renowned Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello and Supertuscan wines and typical products from the region. Crossing Tuscany, the first town we meet is Passignano sul Trasimeno, a small medieval hamlet enclosed by city walls and a beautiful fortress. Take in the magical viewpoint over the enchanting lake and islands, and then continue through evocative landscapes to the hill where the ancient city of Perugia rises before us.
Stand in the middle of the beautiful square and admire the architectural gems around you: the Palazzo dei Priori, the Cathedral and the elegant Fontana Maggiore dating back to 1275. We then continue on to the beautiful places where the patron saint of Italy, Saint Francis of Assisi, lived, worked and died. At the foot of Mount Subasio, visit the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli before breaking for lunch.
