The Palazzo Vecchio is the town hall of Florence. This massive, Romanesque, crenellated fortress-palace is among the most impressive town halls of Tuscany. Overlooking the Piazza della Signoria with its copy of Michelangelo's David statue as well as the gallery of statues in the adjacent Loggia dei Lanzi, it is one of the most significant public places in Italy.
Built at the turn between the 13th and 14th centuries as the seat of the Priors, the oldest part of Palazzo Vecchio was originally designed by Arnolfo di Cambio (1245-1302). The later additions of the 15th and above all of the 16th centuries changed the scale of the rear part of the palace, without however modifying the massive appearance of the huge blocks, projecting gallery and asymmetrical tower.

The Vasari Corridor is an intriguing restricted location in Florence that is only available by appointment and to guided tours. With this tour you get direct access to a thrilling experience through a mysterious and lesser known part of this beautiful city. Its doors will be opened to you and as you take you first few steps through this 1km long passageway, you’ll be struck by its silence away from the crowds.
The corridor was constructed in record time over five months in 1564 on request of the Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici. Designed by Giorgio Vasari, it served the purpose of giving the ruling family of Florence a safe passage between the seat of government and their home.
