Sit back and soak up the scenery as we drive through Montenegro's mountains to the village of Rijeka Crnojevica on the Lake of Skadar. A national park since 1983, the lake is the largest in the Balkans and framed by mountains, marshlands and expanses of water lilies. It's also famed for its birdlife, attracting a whole host of migratory and indigenous species. Come midday, you'll board a boat to cruise around its waters. Have your camera handy as you drift by pretty bays, tiny islands and reed beds that are home to ibis, pelicans and all manner of ducks. After two hours of bobbing around in the sunshine, you'll arrive back on dry land at Virpazar. This lakeside village is the setting for lunch. Sit down at a restaurant and tuck into fresh fish from the lake, prepared and cooked in the traditional local way. And to finish your day out, you'll have some free time to perhaps stroll along the lake's shores or even take a dip.

When they were handing out scenery, Montenegro drew the card marked ‘wild'. It's full of dramatic mountains, canyons and deep forests. And on this trip, you'll witness them for yourself. You'll start with a drive up into the mountains, giving you panoramic views over the coast below. Then, after passing the capital, Podgorica, you'll head for the Moraca River. This 70-mile river cuts through a rugged canyon and we'll take the road through it - have your cameras ready. Along the way, you'll stop at the Moraca Monastery on the riverbanks. Admire the luminous frescoes inside its 12th century church before continuing through the mountains to the Tara canyon. All pine forests and craggy walls plunging into the rushing Tara River, this colossal canyon is the second deepest in the world and part of the beautiful Durmitor National Park. After lunch at a restaurant, you'll carry on to one of its highpoints, the Djurdjevica Tara bridge. This towering bridge spans the gorge in five arches and makes a breathtaking vantage point. Snap photos of the views and spend some time exploring before your journey back.

The ancient town of Kotor, a medieval Mediterranean jewel under UNESCO protection is the first stop on this excursion. We tour the town, visiting the Maritime museum. Our journey continues along the coast to Perast. We visit small island Gospa od Škpjela with a church from the 17 century, a well-known holy place decorated with 68 frescoes painted by famous baroque painter of the area, Tripo Kokolja. The old Mediterranean port of Kotor is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period. It is located on the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska), one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea. Some have called it the southern-most fjord in Europe, but it is a ria, a submerged river canyon. Together with the nearly overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovcen, Kotor and its surrounding area form an impressive and picturesque Mediterranean landscape.
In recent years, Kotor has seen a steady increase in tourists, many of them coming by cruise ship. Visitors are attracted both by the natural beauty of the Gulf of Kotor and by the old town of Kotor.
