Get ready to be impressed by some of Montenegro's scenic and cultural gems. Everything begins as we drive into the country's limestone mountains, climbing ever higher to give you breathtaking views over the coastline. The first stop of the day is Cetinje, Montenegro's former capital. Standing on a plain, this historic town is home to the 12th century Cetinje Monastery, from where bishops once ruled over the country. It's said this stone-built monastery houses the right hand of St. John the Baptist along with a treasure trove of icons and manuscripts. Moving on, you'll head over Mount Lovcen, one of Montenegro's highest peaks, to Njegusi. This farming village is famed for its prosciutto-like ham, ‘prsut' and cheese, ‘sir'. Wash down these local specialities with some Montenegrin wine or honey wine before continuing to Kotor, a beautifully preserved walled town on the Bay of Kotor that's like a mini-Dubrovnik. Visit its twin-towered 12th century St. Tripun cathedral before enjoying some free time to look round its little passageways and stone mansions.
