If you want to understand a whole country then have a look on its capital, and this is even more true here in Sicily. Walking though the capital's busy streets is like leafing through a history book. Here the architectures mix in Gothic, Norman and Baroque styles but it's the Moorish and Arabs who have left the strongest trace. The guide will explain some of the city's wonders and a stroll at your own pace will allow you to take in the flavours of this magnificent city. Time for shopping is also allowed.
Perched on a clifftop overlooking two sweeping bays, the town of Taormina is one of the prettiest in Italy. Dating back as far as 358 BC, it's home to some of the most well-preserved buildings, medieval courtyards and historic landmarks in this corner of the world. This trip starts with some free time to wander around. Sip a cappuccino in the Piazza Nove Aprile, browse the chic boutiques, or check out the town's star attraction :its ancient Greek-Roman theatre. Once you've had your fill of sightseeing, it's on to Mount Etna :Europe's highest volcano. Its summit measures up at 3,330 metres above sea level, but the coach will only take you up to 1,900 metres. When you get there, you'll grab a cable car or an all-terrain vehicle and journey up to 2,900 metres.
On this trip, you'll discover the best of the Aeolian Islands, a cluster of picturesque isles just off the north-east coast of Sicily. Things kick off early in the morning, so you can watch the sunrise en route to Lipari, the largest of the islands. You'll catch a ferry from Milazzo harbour, soaking up panoramic views of the rugged coast as you glide through the water. When you arrive in Lipari, your guide will steer you through the narrow, winding streets, pointing out important landmarks among the terracotta-topped buildings. You'll also get to admire the town's cathedral and museum. After the tour, you'll have time to stop for an espresso in one of the cafés and to rummage the souvenir shops for rosaries and ornaments. Then, it's back on the ferry and on to neighbouring Vulcano. This volcanic isle is rich in sulphur vapours, and it's a great place for a mud bath. You can smother yourself in the thick, creamy stuff, before rinsing off in the sea. It's said to do wonders for your skin, and you'll head back to the mainland feeling fresh and rejuvenated. There's also a black-sand beach here, so if you prefer, you can just relax by the shore, instead.

She'll demonstrate three different starters, using fresh seasonal ingredients, and you'll get to taste the finished product :alongside other Italian staples like pasta and meat :when you sit down to dinner. For the main course, you'll try a warm vegetable omelette with a tomato sauce. Once you've had your fill of local cuisine, there'll even be time for some dancing.
Sicily’s Aeolian Islands have been pushed well and truly into the spotlight. These days fashion designers and pop singers are swapping glitz and glamour for the simplicity of these tiny islands. All withe-washed villages, olive groves and beautiful flowering plants, these rocky islets are the epitome of Munchkinland cuteness. Maybe head to aptly named Vulcano, where the big draws are the mud baths and a volcano that belches sulfurous smoke out in dragon puffs.
This full day includes a great outdoor excursion into the wonders of nature and an opportunity to enjoy one of most impressive Sicily's icon. We will have a first stop to visit the Alcantara Gorges (optional descent, not included), where the river dug a stunning canyon into the lava stones, and then we will aim to the pulsing and flaming heart of the island.

Little more than ghost towns, they’re virtually abandoned these days. There’s little Savoca, where you’ll find the church Michael Corleone – played by Al Pacino- got married in. And Medieival Forza d’Agrò , where you’ll see the church of Annuncation, also of Godfather fame. Even if you’re not a fan of the films, the views from these cliff top villages are second to none.
A holiday to Sicily isn’t complete without getting up close to Europe’s tallest active volcano, the magnificent Mount Etna. And there’s no better time to see it than at sunset. Heading off in the afternoon as a group of just 19, you’ll be picked up from your resort by minibus for a scenic drive through the countryside and up the mountain. The terrain gets rockier the further up you get, so around half way there you’ll swap from the bus to a 4-wheel drive. At two points during the journey, you’ll have some free time to explore this lava-devastated, almost lunar landscape at your own pace. Make sure you’re wearing comfortable walking shoes and warm layers – it gets cold at such a high altitude. When you’re almost at the top, an expert alpine guide will take you on foot to the highest accessible point, where you’ll watch the sun set from almost 3,000 metres up. Afterwards, you’ll head back down the mountain, stopping off a
