This half-day boat trip takes you to Isola Bella, an island nature reserve known for its wildlife both above and below the water. Birds like kingfishers, peregrine falcons and herons call the island home. After making your own way to the port in Giardini-Naxos, you’ll set off on a cruise along the coast. Check out the views on the way as you sail past the town of Taormina, with the mighty Mount Etna towering behind it. When you reach the island, the boat will moor in the Grotta Azurra and Grotta Del Giorno sea caves for swimming and snorkelling. After you’ve had the chance to spot sea urchins, starfish, shrimp and eels among the coral, the boat will transfer you back to the harbour.

Move over ancient Greece, Sicily’s Greek ruins are just as impressive, and this day trip takes you to the best of them. After a 6am depart from your resort, the coach will arrive in Agrigento mid-morning. This is where you’ll find the UNESCO-listed Valley Of The Temples, the area’s most famous archaeological site. Although it’s called a valley, the seven temples actually sit high on a ridge known as the Sacred Way. Your guide will lead you along it to the Concordia Temple, which is the best preserved of them all, and the Temple Of Zeus. This was the largest Greek temple ever constructed, but it was never fully finished. After lunch, you’ll head to the Villa Romana Del Casale in Piazza Armerina for the afternoon part of the tour. Also UNESCO-listed, this luxury villa houses the largest and most complex collection of Roman mosaics in the world.

Thanks to its mineral-rich volcanic landscape, Sicily’s waters are full of life. And you’ll get a chance to explore them on this half-day scuba diving trip. After making your own way to the port in Giardini-Naxos, you’ll set off on a cruise along the coast, past the town of Taormina with the mighty Mount Etna looming in the background, to an island nature reserve called Isola Bella. Literally translated as ‘beautiful island’, this is a good spot for clocking wildlife. The boat will moor in the Grotta Azurra and Grotta Del Giorno sea caves, where you’ll slip into scuba gear and dive in. Expect to see various types of fish, sea urchins, starfish, shrimp and eels. Then, it’s back on the boat to return to the port.

Food is one of Sicily’s best attractions. This is a chance to learn more about the island’s cuisine, and sharpen your cooking skills at the same time. The tour begins at Taormina market, where you’ll be given tips on how to shop for the best meat, fish and vegetables. Your guide will then take you on a short walk through the town, to a nearby restaurant. There, you’ll get a two-hour cooking lesson from an experienced local chef. He’ll start by giving you a demonstration of how to prepare a Sicilian meal. Then, it’s over to you to have a go at cooking it yourself. You’ll get to judge your own culinary skills afterwards, as what you’ve prepared will be served for lunch. A sommelier will also be on hand to help select the best wine to go with the meal.

During this cooking lesson by a local chef, you’ll see just how passionate Sicilians are about food. The coach will set off along the coast to the village of Sant’Ambrogio, one hour from Palermo, to a restaurant called Osteria Bacchus. The owner of this family-run restaurant is called Chef Mimmo. Along with his sons, Ciccio and Ambrogio, he’ll give you a three-hour lesson to prepare a starter, first course, main course and dessert, using seasonal and organic ingredients. Hopefully all that cooking will work up an appetite, as you’ll be dining on the meal you’ve prepared for lunch. The coach will take you back to your resort in the early afternoon.

If you’re a fan of the Godfather trilogy, you’ll love this tour of Corleone, a town infamous for its links to the Mafia. The trip begins with a one and a half hour drive through Sicily’s countryside. On the way, there’ll be a photo stop at the Ferdinand III Royal Hunting House, a mansion which was commissioned by a king in the early 1800s. When you get to Corleone, you’ll meet your guide. They’ll lead you through the town’s cobbled streets, pointing out sites where the ‘Picciotti’ – Mafia gang members – were recruited. Corleone is also known for its large number of churches. You’ll stop by the 14th-century Chiesa Madre, aka Mother Church, which is one of the best-known in the town. The tour rounds off at the Palazzo Sant’Agostino, where you’ll visit a photography exhibition about Falcone and Borsellino, two anti-Mafia judges who were murdered in the early 1990s.
