On this trip, you'll discover the best of the Aeolian Islands, a cluster of picturesque isles just off the north-east coast of Sicily. Things kick off early in the morning, so you can watch the sunrise en route to Lipari, the largest of the islands. You'll catch a ferry from Milazzo harbour, soaking up panoramic views of the rugged coast as you glide through the water. When you arrive in Lipari, your guide will steer you through the narrow, winding streets, pointing out important landmarks among the terracotta-topped buildings. You'll also get to admire the town's cathedral and museum. After the tour, you'll have time to stop for an espresso in one of the cafés and to rummage the souvenir shops for rosaries and ornaments. Then, it's back on the ferry and on to neighbouring Vulcano. This volcanic isle is rich in sulphur vapours, and it's a great place for a mud bath. You can smother yourself in the thick, creamy stuff, before rinsing off in the sea. It's said to do wonders for your skin, and you'll head back to the mainland feeling fresh and rejuvenated. There's also a black-sand beach here, so if you prefer, you can just relax by the shore, instead.
