If you’ve ever dreamt of swimming with dolphins, here’s your chance. The setting is Zoomarine, Portugal’s famous animal and marine park. First up, you’ll learn about the beautiful bottlenosed dolphins you’re about to meet and be given a briefing on what to do. Then it’s time to wriggle into your wetsuit and jump into the lagoon for your half-hour encounter. Under the watchful eye of Zoomarine’s trainers, you’ll get to swim and splash around with these friendly and loveable creatures. Stroke their tummies, enjoy a dorsal fin tow, give them a cuddle and maybe even get a dolphin kiss. Spectators can watch and take photos from nearby, too. Enjoy a relaxing cruise upon the River Arade. This gently flowing river runs through the scenic countryside of the interior of the Algarve and makes its way to the sea at the town of Portimão.
The river runs through the fascinating town of Silves which was once the ancient Moorish capital of the Algarve and whose skyline is dominated by the impressive castle which dates from that period. This historical river route was plied by the Romans and subsequent settlers in the area. The Arade finally meets the sea at Portimão - in ancient times and still today an important commercial port.
As you cruise along the river you can enjoy the lush scenery, the many orange and lemon groves, the soothing sound of birdsong, the river wildlife and the hypnotic lapping of the water against the boat. Breathe the pure air, rich with the scents of the nature, allowing your thoughts to wander at will.
The river cruise leaves from the harbour of Portimão, and we travel upriver to the historical town of Silves. Here you will have about 1 hour to explore the town, to visit some of the most interesting locals of this fascinating town.
Take this chance to explore some of the Algarve’s famed attractions - ranging from Roman ruins to the cosmopolitan capital of the province, Faro.Visit Faro, capital of the Algarve, where old and new live side by side. Visit the Cathedral or the museum and enjoy a stroll through this cosmopolitan town.
Next stop is Olhão - a traditional fishing village, renowned for the cube-shaped white-washed houses. Here you have an opportunity to explore the famous market with its huge selection of fish. See the Arab fortress, the Roman Bridge dating from the IV century and visit at least some of the towns 22 churches!
Final destination is a tiny, traditional fishing village - Santa Luzia. There you will see the clay pots used to catch octopus - an ingenious device!

Suspended high above the coast lie the wooded Monchique hills, an area that exudes Portuguese beauty and tradition. We travel high up into the hills in small groups, passing by sweet-smelling orange and lemon orchards nestled in amongst the rolling valleys.
We make plenty of stops to take a break and enjoy the views along the way with ample opportunities for those perfect holiday snaps. When we reach Alferce, we visit the historic, cobble-stoned village before continuing on to the lush peaks of Barrancos dos Pisoes. Explore the natural wilderness until it’s time for us to settle down to catch the sunset from a special view point.
Sip on a flute of sparkling wine as you admire the sky turning from blue to soft pinks, reds and purples as darkness blankets the landscape. As night falls, hop back into the 4x4 to make our way to a local restaurant. Here you’ll be served a tasty Portuguese meal to round off our magical evening in the Monchique hills.

Here, along the Costa Vicentina, you can feast your eyes on the wild beauty of the pristine beaches pounded by the turbulent Atlantic and backed by majestic cliffs. Our journey allows you a taste of a different Algarve and a sample of the neighbouring province – the majestic Alentejo.
The Costa Vicentina, from Vila Nova de Milfontes to Burgau, is a protected area, and, as such, its 80 kms of coastline is a true paradise of fauna and flora. Home to a large variety of plants and herbs and a wide diversity of animal life. Leaving the bustle of the southern coast of the Algarve behind at Lagos we head northwards through unspoilt countryside and along the coast to our first stop – the beaches of Amado and Carrapateira which offer stunning views of the vast horizon and the unforgiving cliffs. Here you can fill your lungs with the purest air imaginable. We journey on to the ancient town of Aljezur which is marked by the brooding presence of the Moorish castle which sits atop a hill, affording spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, to those who make the journey to the summit.
During the morning we cross by jeep the Algarvian mountains in a great JEEP SAFARI including explanations about cork, history and traditions. Around 10h00 we arrive at “ Dias de Aromas”. The farm is headquartered in São Brás area and started its activity in 2013, it is dedicated to the production of medicinal plants and herbs with a location in perfect harmony with nature and preserving some native species of herbs.
We start our gourmet guided tour of the farm with specialized staff explaining the various species of plants, their origins and their benefits. Along the walking you will have the chance to feel and try different aromas. At the end you will have a tasting of teas accompanied with fresh goat cheese flavored with aromatic herbs, accompanied by local home made bread or toast also flavored with local olive oil ted bread to try the oil flavored with Catmint and Chilli Cayenne. We finish our visit with small slices of lemon cake flavored with thyme.
Next destination, Olhão. Visit to the fish and veg market (built in 1915). One building holds the fish market where you’ll find a huge variety of extremely fresh fish and sea food straight from the port. The other holds the town’s fruit and vegetable market. You will stay here around 1h30 giving you the opportunity to have your own lunch around the market area.After lunch is time to visit the Tavira salt pans run by Mr.Rui Simeão. Located in the Ria Formosa Natural Park these saltpans have been in his family for over 150 years.
The guide will explain to you how the water enters the pans from the Atlantic Ocean at high tide and how it is filtered to produce top quality gourmet Flor de Sal (Flower of Salt).
Flor de Sal is hand-harvested by workers who scrape on the top layer of salt before it sinks to the bottom of the salt pans. As it dries, it forms small sheets that easily crumble between the fingers. Flor de Sal is considered an artisanal food product. Due to its labour-intensive production it is one of the most expensive salts in the world.
We finish our gourmet tour visiting the Agricultural Cooperative from the olive oil producers of Santa Catarina .
Normally wine producers who use the French term “terroire” to describe the combination of land, climate and location when extolling the virtues of a particular region. But the term is equally suitable when talking of olives and this recently-launched olive oil is most definitely a proudly Algarvean product. Olives have been cultivated here in the Algarve for millennia, but commercial production of olive oil in the region was all but unheard of until quite recently. At Santa Catarina agricultural cooperative with this range of artisanally-produced oils under the Flôr de Caldeirão label.
Here you also have the opportunity to taste pure olive oil with toasts, the local liquors and the famous Algarvean fire water/Medronho!

As the colder nights approach, so does Christmas! So, for the third year running, our "NATALÂNDIA" ("Christmas Wonderland") will take place at Zoo de Lagos. During the festive period, children and adults can enjoy the true magic of Christmas among the amazing animals that live here. From 7th December 2014 to 7th January 2015, Christmas will descend on us here at Lagos Zoo. Father Christmas will be here, together with his reindeer, fairies, elves and tones of entertainment. To make the occasion extra special, there will be artificial snow and the whole zoo will be decorated to celebrate the arrival of Father Christmas. Like last year, we will have the very popular "Dream House" (Casa dos Sonhos) where children can write their letters to Father Christmas on special headed paper. It might be the coldest time of the year in the Algarve but it's still lovely and warm...come and enjoy a sunny (but snowy!) Christmas Wonderland at Zoo de Lagos!
