Come with us to a local farm, explore the secrets of the Santorinian agriculture and tantalize your taste buds with local treats.
We will help you gain insights about the typical agriculture of Santorini and introduce you to its very own products: what's different and why? Next, you will learn how to combine the freshest ingredients to prepare local specialties, and taste the "Meze" meal with a glass of Santorinian wine, while relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view in a local tavern.
Start your Flavours Tour with a pick up from any place you choose, and enjoy the Santorini view on our short drive to the local farm. Not many farm products grow on the island of Santorini. The ones that do, grow with the help of the Mediterranean climate and the volcanic soil of excellent quality. We would love to introduce you to the unique Santorini tomatoes, small like cherry tomatoes, with thick skin, of exquisite taste. These tomatoes produce the famous Santorini tomato paste or sun dried tomatoes, but you can also try them fresh, in juice or as a sweet.
The Fava Beans are the most traditional product of the island: the yellow peas grow exclusively here and has been growing on the island for more than 3.500 years. The reason for that is probably the volcanic soil. Fava is a dish the locals usually serve with sea food. Santorini also grows its own cucumbers, called Katsounia, (which are) white eggplants that are very sweet, only with a few seeds, and zucchinis that are round like tennis balls. You can, also, find wild growing fig trees everywhere on the island, as well as capers, which are used in the famous Santorinian salad. Santorini is one of the few places in Greece which is not famous for its olive oil, because the strong winds and the lack of water on the island are the biggest enemies of growing olive trees. Instead we have a lot of pistachio groves.
From the fields into the kitchen. Meet your cooking teacher and get ready to help with the preparation of some local delicacies, such as Santorinian Salad - a salad with cherry tomatoes, chloro cheese, the santorini cucumber 'Katsouni' and capers, Tomato balls - made of Santorini tomatoes, onions, dill and flour, and Fava Cream - a dip made of dried Santorini Fava beans.
We pick you up from a place of your choice and we depart for an ancient vineyard, where our local wine expert explains you everything about the peculiar viticulture system “kouloura” of the famous indigenous variety Assyrtiko, the only life form that managed to survive the huge volcanic eruption which took place at 1630 B.C. and changed the whole face of the island.
Together you will visit two of the best wineries of the island, start with a tour through the winery followed by a degustation of its four most remarkable wines, with every part being held by our oenologist George.
Every winery has been selected for its quality in every aspect meaning wine quality, location and architectural beauty and of course food quality, since food (meaning Greek delicacies like “graviera” cheese) and wine pairing is part of the tour!
The last stop is a family owned traditional farm, located at the most precious and genuine part of the island, Akrotiri, the southern part of the island. Over there we taste the island’s most prestigious agricultural products that the volcanic soil has given to us. The round zucchinis, the capers, the traditional goat cheese of Santorini, “chloro”, and the famous Santorinian cherry tomatoes. Then we taste the wines of the farm’s traditional winery, wines like the dry white Nychteri and Vinsanto, the famous dessert wine.
In our Santorini Wine Experts Tour, we pick you up at a place of your choice and then we visit three of the best wineries of the island. In each winery we start with a tour and then follows a degustation of its four most remarkable wines, with every part being held by our oenologist George.
Every winery has been selected for its quality in every aspect meaning wine quality, location and architectural beauty and of course food quality, since food (meaning Greek delicacies like “graviera” cheese) and wine pairing is part of the tour!
By choosing our Santorini Wine Experts Tour, you select to let yourself free in a mystical trip of historical facts, environmental information, traditional and modern culture contradictions, laughs and new friendships with the voluptuous flavors of the Santorinian wines on the foreground.
Our unique excursion to Thirassia Island starts from the port of Ammoudi, close to Oia in the north of the island.
After picking you up from your hotel we bring you to Ammoudi. Then, by a tenderboat, our groups will be brought to Thirassia, to the port of Korfos, which is inside the Caldera. From this point, we start our climb over about 180 steps to Manolas. Everyone is able to climb there but if you want, you have also got the opportunity to ride a donkey with a shlight extra charge. The spectacular view will make it up to you for all the effort!
Our next stop is at the taverna “Panorama”, where you can get rest and refresh. Your guide will explain to you everything there is to know about the genesis and history of Thirassia Island. SantoriniExperts have all the local expertise and will help you gain all the information needed about the local agricultural specialties, wine production and of course the Greek traditions.
The short stop will be followed by a stroll through the traditional village of Manolas. An abandoned cave house, the center of the village and the school are some highlights on our way. Then our way brings us into the untouched nature of Thirassia Island. During our hiking tour we will pass through a garden with vegetables, a vine yard and we will find different herbs until we get to Akrilia. Akrillia is an abandoned village full of cave houses, which was once the biggest settlement on this island. In the center, we can find and visit the Virgin Mary Church where we share with you interesting information about the Greek religion. From here we will be brought to the new port of the island. There in a traditional tavern right next to the sea we will enjoy our Greek lunch accompanied by a nice glas of local wine.
Our day trip to Thirassia is completed. The tenderboat takes us back to Ammoudi from where we will start our return back to the hotel.
Admire Santorini’s beaches and beauty spots from the water on a scenic 2.5-hour sea kayaking tour. Settle into a comfortable kayak, get instructions, and paddle behind an experienced guide along the rugged south coast. Waft by steep cliffs and pretty beaches, and visit a cliff-backed cove for a picnic and to swim and snorkel. Take in epic views of the caldera and its islands, and gaze up at the clifftop Faros lighthouse on Santorini’s southern tip before your return. Choose from a morning or afternoon departure to suit your schedule.
We start from Mesa Pigadia located very near the settlement of Akrotiri and the lighthouse at the southeast end of the island. The beach is named black beach, and you can see the traditional cave houses. After a short briefing regarding the activity we head east to visit a bay with caves so-called "Indian bay" because of its shape of rocky surfaces. If the weather permits we continue to Faros offering incomparable views to the caldera, Aspronisi and Thirasia. We return back going west, stopping on the white beach and have time for both swimming and snorkeling in crystal clear waters. Then we see the beach Kambia (black pebbles), and the Red Beach (due to the volcanic soil too) before we return to our base. At the end of the trip a lunch is included at the traditional local tavern ‘Mesa Pigadia’
Have the chance to admire the south coast of the island whilst trying to balance on your SUP! Our guides will pick you up from your hotel and drive to Mesa Pigadia, one of the most unspoiled beaches of the island. After an introductory course (for beginners) and accompanied by an experienced guide you will try to paddle standing on your board.
