From Tokyo we head to Kamakura by bus, located about an hour away, a city with plentiful temples and monuments, as well as home to the second tallest bronze statue in Japan. On arrival, we get stuck in and visit the 121 tonne symbol of the city: the Great Buddha. Standing proud at 13.35 metres, unlike the Great Buddha of Nara, this Buddha is placed directly outdoors, which you can enter for a small additional fee.
Next on the agenda, we visit the 1,200 year old Hase Temple that mirrors the seasons with over 700 Chinese peonies that bloom in the spring and maple trees that turn vibrant red in autumn. We stop for a Japanese lunch before continuing our whirlwind tour to Yakohoma and to the Sankeien Garden. Enjoy a stroll through the massive 43 acre garden featuring trees, ponds, streams and historical buildings, taking a tour of the inside of a traditional thatched roof minka house. Then it’s on to the largest of Japan’s three Chinatowns – alive with restaurants and shops – after which we head back to Ginza taking in the views of the impressive Yokohama Bay Bridge on our way.

From Nagano we depart to one of few remaining pilgrimage sites in Japan - Zenko-ji Temple. Founded in the 7th century, it’s one of the fine temples famous for both its vast size and history dating back 1,400 years. We enjoy lunch here before departing to the next national treasure on the itinerary.
Jigokudani Yaen-koen (monkey park) is where seeing is believing! Watch in awe as wild Japanese snow monkeys unwind in the hot springs in a place that has become internationally renowned. Take a snap of the monkeys behaving mischievously before it’s your turn to relax in the hot springs at Hotel Suimeikan. Enjoy the hot waters of the famous Yudanaka Onsen, one of Japan's most famous hot springs, complete with saunas, rooms to relax in, foot baths and abundant hot springs that continually pump out 2,200 litres of fresh water. Truly relax before we start our return journey back to Nagano.

Hop aboard our sightseeing bus and take to the streets of Tokyo with your guide. Drive by the multi-coloured Rainbow Bridge, and catch its reflection sparkling in Tokyo Bay before heading on to a popular and unmissable photo opportunity.
We reach Odaiba, Tokyo’s own version of the Statue of Liberty, where we make a stop at a beautiful vantage point from where you can take photos overlooking the city. In commemoration of ‘The French Year in Japan’ in the late nineties, the French Statue of Liberty was temporarily brought into the land of the rising sun before its replica, which you can see today, was created.
Next, we head to Tokyo’s other iconic bridge: Tokyo Gate Bridge, also known as ‘Dinosaur Bridge’. We drive by the dueling dinosaurs which connect the Wakasu area to the Central Breakwater for a panoramic view over the city on our way to Kagaya (Tokyo Ariake Branch), a traditional Japanese-style inn at Wakura Onsen in Noto, for a delicious set meal. We end the tour on a high note with unforgettable views from the Roppongi Hills Tokyo City View Observation Deck.

The tour sets off from the Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal from where we make our way to the unmistakable Tokyo Tower, which stands proud at 333m overlooking the city. Ride 250m up to its observation deck where spectacular views over metropolitan Tokyo will unfold before your eyes. After a brush with modern Tokyo, it’s then time to take in a traditional custom with a traditional tea ceremony experience before having a Japanese-style lunch.
Next stop is the Imperial Palace Plaza to admire Nijubashi Bridge and the surrounding scenery of the National Garden which forms part of the palace grounds open to the public. We continue our afternoon with a leisurely 40 minute cruise along the Sumida River for a different view of modern day Tokyo.
Of the 33 temples in Eastern Japan dedicated to the Goddess Kannon, Asakusa Kannon is the only one in the capital. Visit this historic area which includes Nakamise-dori, the street leading to the temple, and head straight back into modern Tokyo with a drive through the dazzling luxury shopping area of Ginza.
