Day 01 Tuxtla Gutierrez – Cañon Del Sumidero - San Cristobal De Las Casas
Reception at Tuxtla Gutierrez airport and transfer to the Grijalva River Pier to navigate and observe the geological wonder that gives the place the well known name of the “Cañon del Sumidero” (sinkwell canyon), whilst enjoying the diversity of flora and fauna characteristic of the area. Departure for the colonial city of San Cristobal de Las Casas (2'300 m. above sea level), founded in 1528 by Captain Diego de Mazariegos, and declared Human Cultural Patrimony. Hotel check-in on arrival and the remainder of the day free. Overnight stay.
Day 02: San Cristobal – Lagos De Montebello – San Cristobal
Morning departure from “San Cristobal de las Casas” to “Lagos de Montebello”. Our first stop to the indigenous pottery community of”Amatenango del Valle “, from where we will head for the “Chiflón” waterfall, a natural freefall of water surrounded by exuberant vegetation of reeds and palm groves. We will end this tour with a visit to Mexico´s most beautiful Lake District, known as: “Lagos de Montebello”. This nature reserve consists of several acres of pines, oaks and rain forest (jungle) where, weather permitting, we will have the opportunity to admire and enjoy the many lakes and appreciate the varying hues of the waters in this splendid and picturesque natural environment. Early evening return to San Cristobal de Las Casas. Overnight stay.
Day 03: San Cristobal De Las Casas – Indigenous Communities – City Tour
Departure after breakfast, for the Indigenous Communities of the Tzotzil ethnic group. Our first visit will take us to the town of Chamula for a learning experience with an aim to understanding the fusion of contemporary traditions and ancient Mayan characteristics that give this place its identity. We will then continue towards Zinacantan where we will visit the church and the home of a family cooperative where we will be welcomed with a regional drink and have the opportunity to watch women work the waist loom which dates from Pre-Columbian times. Having seen some of the samples of what they produce, we will be invited into their kitchen where we may be fortunate enough to be offered a tasting of their traditional hand-made tortillas. When finished, we will return to San Cristobal de Las Casas, where we will be undertaking a City Tour to get us familiarized with the most important features of this beautiful city with the charms of a colonial town. Day 04: San Cristobal – Agua Azul– Misol Ha – Archaeological Site Of Palenque
Early morning departure to Palenque stopping at Agua Azul, a group of waterfalls created by the currents of the: Otulún, Shumuljá and Tulijá rivers which have formed shallow canyons banked by vertical cliffs where you will be able to swim and enjoy the different areas of such magnificent environment. We will then continue on to the Misol-Ha waterfalls which rise 30 meters in height and are surrounded by natural rain forest, which make this an extraordinarily beautiful and refreshing place. Our last stop will be a visit to the archaeological site of Palenque: A Mayan city known for its architectural and sculptural heritage with a number of admirable buildings including: the Palace, the Temple of the Foliated Cross, and the Temple of the Sun amongst others. Transfer to the hotel in the city of Palenque and overnight stay.

Amatenango del Valle, a community located 20 minutes from the city of San Cristobal de Las Casas. La primera visita lo llevará a la ciudad de Chamula para una experiencia de aprendizaje con el objetivo de comprender la fusión de las tradiciones contemporáneas y las antiguas características mayas que le dan identidad a este lugar. Los visitantes tendrán tiempo libre para visitar la Plaza de Armas y comprar en el mercado local.
Luego, continuarás hacia Zinacantan donde visitarás una iglesia colonial. En esta excursión de media jornada visitaremos uno de los secretos mejor guardados de México, el Cañón del Sumidero, una zona espectacular, agreste y que conserva toda su belleza, realizando una breve parada durante el viaje de vuelta en el asentamiento de la era colonial de Chiapa de Corzo.
Para empezar el día te recogerán en el hotel y te llevarán al embarcadero, donde subirás a bordo de un barco para recorrer el río Grijalva, rumbo al Cañón del Sumidero. Durante la travesía por el poderoso río Grijalva verás imponentes muros de granito, laderas de exuberante vegetación, fascinantes cascadas y misteriosas cuevas. En la fauna y la flora del cañón no se nota la mano del hombre. Déjate maravillar por la gran variedad de plantas; en el cañón también viven muchas especies en peligro de extinción, tales como el caimán Morely y el mono araña, además de especies amenazadas como el yaguarundí, el ocelote, el oso hormiguero y el águila real.
La siguiente parada será en la histórica ciudad de Chiapa de Corzo, que posee muchos recuerdos de su pasado colonial español. Dispondrás de tiempo suficiente para comprar en las numerosas tiendas de artesanía de la ciudad antes de regresar a San Cristóbal, adonde llegaremos sobre las 14.00 horas.

En esta excursión de día completo tendrás la oportunidad de explorar la región de los sorprendentes lagos de Montebello, así como la zona virgen de Amatenango del Valle y la impresionante cascada de Chiflón. Nos dirigiremos a Amatenango, un pueblo tzeltal famoso por su cerámica y cuyas mujeres se dedican a hacer ollas de barro y adornos desde hace un milenio. Después visitaremos la cascada de Chiflón, una de las más altas y poderosas de todo México. Te sorprenderá el salto de agua de 120 metros por un acantilado de piedra caliza casi vertical, que envía nubes de niebla sobre un paisaje cálido y seco. Sin embargo, el punto culminante de este viaje serán los Lagos de Montebello. Situados en la frontera con Guatemala, estos lagos son famosos por sus colores llamativos, que varían debido a sus diferentes contenidos minerales , que van desde la esmeralda y turquesa al verde oscuro, e incluso púrpura y negro rojizo. Hay 59 lagos de esta región y tendremos tiempo de visitar entre 6 y 9 de los más bellos antes de regresar al complejo, ya por la tarde.

En esta visita turística de medio día veremos de cerca las fascinantes aldeas mayas del altiplano que rodean a San Cristóbal, así como un recorrido guiado por la misma ciudad de San Cristóbal. Saldremos del hotel alrededor de las 09.30 para dirigirnos al fascinante enclave maya y tzotzil de San Juan Chamula, famoso por sus singulares costumbres religiosas que mezclan las creencias católicas con las mayas. Durante la visita conoceremos aspectos de la cultura y las tradiciones de esta sorprendente comunidad. Primero visitaremos su cementerio atmosférico, con sus cruces mayas diseminadas por una colina. Desde allí recorreremos el pueblo hasta la iglesia principal de la comunidad. Nuestra próxima parada es San Lorenzo Zinacantán, otra comunidad de habla tzotzil. Es una de las comunidades más pintorescas del altiplano, como se observa en la vestimenta de color rojo, azul y púrpura brillante, bordada con grandes flores que usan los habitantes de la localidad. Visitaremos la iglesia principal de la comunidad y también trataremos con los lugareños, a los que podríamos comprar alguno de sus magníficos trabajos. En el camino de vuelta, realizaremos una visita guiada a la maravillosa ciudad colonial de San Cristóbal de las Casas, antes de regresar al hotel alrededor de las 14.30.
Visita Agua Azul, uno de los atractivos naturales más hermosos de México, así como Palenque, uno de sus yacimientos arqueológicos más importantes, en esta excursión de jornada completa. La primera parada, después de madrugar y desayunar en el camino, será en las Cascadas de Agua Azul, una serie de piscinas poco profundas y de saltos de agua formados por presas de gour. El agua resplandeciente es rica en piedra caliza y forma cascadas de color azul cristalino que acaban en una serie de presas naturales y desembocan en el río Shumulhá, cuyo nivel nos alcanza hasta la cintura. Tendrás tiempo suficiente para nadar y remar en las zonas marcadas.
La siguiente parada serán las impresionantes cataratas de Misol-Ha, con una altura de 30 metros, situadas en un entorno de selva tropical que bien podría haber sido el escenario de una película de Tarzán.
La última parada serán las impresionantes ruinas de Palenque. Este lugar, tapizado por un mar de jungla verde y envuelto en historia y leyendas, nos recuerda cómo floreció la civilización maya durante cientos de años en esta exuberante región tropical. Aunque aún siguen las excavaciones en la zona, hay mucho que ver, como por ejemplo el Templo de las Inscripciones, el Templo de las Calaveras y el Palacio Real. Cuenta con un excelente museo y una tienda-cafetería dentro del parque.
