For travellers seeking an exciting day in Athens should join this half day tour from the Acropolis to Faliro through the new bicycle lane. We will visit the legendary battle ship "Averof" built 100 years ago. We also get a look at the Faliro gulf and have plenty of time to swim at a sandy beach.
Faliro was the first port of Athens, prior Piraeus. From there the glistening Acropolis looked like a lighthouse. There used to be the first organised beach for the Athenians since 1890. We plan some relaxing time at a beach bar.

Otto, the first King of Greece, had conceived a grandiose plan to convert the Acropolis into one of the most impressive palaces of Europe. The architectural designs had been entrusted to the Prussian architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841). Together, they envisioned a new, eighth wonder of the world, which would harmoniously combine the ancient monuments with the modern buildings. Extensive gardens, water fountains, a new statue of Athena and even a hippodrome would be constructed on the Acropolis, all of which, according to Schinkel, would breathe new life to the sacred rock, transforming it into a live, timeless museum. Otto’s father, an admirer of ancient Greece, finally put paid to these plans and the area of modern day Syntagma square was chosen as the site for the new palace.

An exciting day of fun and discovery will reveal a hidden gem so close to Athens. Pana’s cave got its name from the worshiping of the Nymphs and Pana, the ancient peoples’ cloven hoofed ("tragopodaros") divinity, patron of mountains, forests, caves, and flocks. This cave also named “Lichnospilia”, because 2,000 oil lamps were found by an archaeological survey.
The cave of Panas is located on the left slope of the Goura ravine at an altitude of 620 meters, at the south-west foothills of Mt.Parnitha near Athens. As soon as we arrive at the starting point we will initially hike until we reach the impressive Keladona gorge. Our mood changes as we enter the gorge where we will walk by the river side and through the very tall and imposing fir trees, plane trees, chestnut trees etc. There we will take a break for a snack by the river side.
When we approach the cave we will get ready for a rappel (abseiling) activity. Our guides will help us wear all necessary equipment (helmets and safety harnesses) in order to go down the rock of about 10m height. As we go down, we are already in front of the almost full of plane trees entrance of the cave. The cave consists of two chambers that connect with each other by a very narrow and low passage. In order to pass through to the other chamber, we have to crawl! The rare nircipfagus (small aquatic animal) live in the spring and in the full stalactite basins of the first chamber. The second chamber has a wonderful basin decorated by stalactite material. After visiting the cave we will hike back to the point where we left our car and then return back to Athens center.

Tatoi Royal Estate located 27 km from the city center of Athens (30 minutes’ drive) was once the summer retreat of King George and Queen Olga, before being converted to the royal family’s permanent residence in 1948. In years past, Tatoi was one of the most magical areas in Greece. Its dense forests were home to red deer, roe deer, wild boars and other smaller animals. The estate was also home to vineyards, vegetable gardens, large expanses of citrus trees and extensive olive groves.
The estate’s structures included stables for the horses and other animals, a winery, an oil mill. The palace building was an elegant two-storey building with charming terraces and a tiled roof that was once adorned by an ornate cornice. Nowadays although abandoned the area is still beautiful. Dense forests overgrown with Aleppo pine trees, tall cypresses, poplars, plane trees, beech trees, Greek strawberry trees, olive trees, and citrus trees among others adorn the Tatoi estate, which is currently protected by the Natura 2000 network as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
During our tour we will bike along the beautiful landscape and pass through the palace, the stables, wine cellars and royal cemetery.
