Home to prisoners for over 60 years, the Old Jail in St. Augustine looks more like a resort than a maximum-security facility. The original structure was built in 1891 by Henry Flagler, and although it has been restored and renovated throughout the years, it looks very much the way it did when it opened over a century ago.
Today, visitors to the Old Jail can take a guided tour, learn about the many prisoners and practices that took place here and see where the Sheriff and his wife and family lived— adjacent to where the prisoners were housed.
Meet Sheriff Joe Perry who had a reputation as being a harsh and strict warden – one of the toughest in the South. Walk through the men’s and women’s cells and see where executions took place in the gallows. St. Augustine Old Jail
Completed in 1891, the jail housed prisoners for over 60 years. It is one of the few surviving 19th century jails. Explore the sheriffs quarters where he and his wife lived adjacent to 72 prisoners. Guests can visit the male and female cells, maximum security area and see a large collection of used weapons.
St. Augustine History Museum
A combination of historical displays and private collections bring over 400 years of Florida history to life. The museum features displays of the various countries that ruled over St. Augustine; England, Spain and France. Guests can visit the Spanish Sunken Treasure Room, a Timucan Indian Village and the Florida Cracker Trading Post.

Potter’s Wax Museum is located on Orange Avenue in historic St. Augustine and offers visitors a unique opportunity to see some of the world’s most famous people up close. America’s first and oldest wax museum, it was founded by George Potter, a man who traveled around the world as a young child with his family.
It was during one of his many trips that Potter visited a London wax museum and became inspired to create his own wax sculptures in America. Potter’s opened in 1948 and is home to more than 145 wax figures including celebrities, sports stars, dignitaries, politicians, entertainers, historical people and more. You’ll stand next to Harry Potter, his friends Hermione and Ron and his mortal enemy, Voldemort. You’ll see Presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, John Adams and others. Benjamin Franklin, Cleopatra, Ponce de Leon and Elvis are also here - along with Annie Oakley and Davy Crockett.
