Gornja Podstrana (Old Podstrana), starting point of this tour is 30 minutes’ drive from the centre of Split. There, we will be sightseeing the ancient picturesque village with its old stone houses and a couple of medieval churches on the slopes of the mount Perun. Also we'll have a short briefing about bicycle and its usage as well as about the tour we are going to attend.

We are driving toward the old village of Duce by the dirt road below the mountain ridge, parallel to the main seaside route.

Our second stop is the abandoned village of Stare Jasenice where we will be discovering the old rural dalmatian architecture. Then we continue our drive toward Omis.

The cycling time is about 2 hours but the whole trip can take 3h 30 including the break times and sightseeing.

We take half of the same route when going back and then go down to the main road. There, a home made brandy is waiting to be tasted and the transfer to Split.

We are returning from the old village of Duce, our last point, at the sunset.

The whole way up there, surrounded by the Mediterranean vegetation, we are offered a terrific view of the Adriatic sea and its islands.

Take a trip through time on an historical tour of Split that goes from the days of Diocletian to the fall of Yugoslavia. Chat with a local who saw the 90s conflicts first-hand, and share stories of Croatian culture over a tasty picnic in the park.

From the ancient Roman era to the 1990s fall of Yugoslavia, there’s a lot of history to discover in Croatia — and we’re cramming it all in on this epic Split tour that takes you time-travelling through more than 2,000 years of history.

The Roman emperor Diocletian landed in the pages of history as a great reformer, and an enlightened mind who was not afraid of changes… or their consequences. Yet some might say Diocletian’s most notable move wasn’t his many reforms, but the fact that he voluntarily resigned and retired at the end of his 21-year reign, something unheard of among Roman rulers. We’ll learn about the legacy left by the emperor with a visit to the monumental Diocletian’s Palace. This UNESCO World Heritage site has stood as a witness to many changes in Split’s history, and you’ll learn surprising facts about the palace grounds — like how the ancient property is still inhabited today.

We’ll then fast-forward to Croatia’s modern history, with the Yugoslavian break-up and the War of Independence. It was a time when brave people fought for their freedom and weren’t afraid of the consequences — much like ancient Diocletian, who had left his mark on the Balkans so many years before. This era brought in a clear vision of what the new state would be, and kick-started deep political reforms that would forever change the future of this region.

But don’t worry, we’re not going to make this Split tour just a history lecture! Instead, we’re going to have a conversation about all of it, over a picnic in the most beautiful park in Split. You’ll get to try a few traditional Dalmatian dishes as you chat with your local guide about Croatia’s past, present, and future.
