Get a grandstand view of the world beneath Sal's waters on this trip. Your craft is the bright yellow Neptunus, which is styled like a submarine, but more like a glass-bottomed boat. Its lower deck is wall-to-wall windows that let you peer right out into the crystal-clear Atlantic. We'll whisk you to Santa Maria bay, where you'll go aboard, meet the Neptunus captain, and sail out into the ocean. Then, you'll have an hour to watch the undersea show, snapping photos of all the goings-on. Cue acres of exotic flora and swaying sea grass. Sashaying shoals of bream and rockfish. And if you're lucky, moray eels, puffer fish, trumpet fish, stingrays and turtles. Oh, and you'll even get close up to a spooky shipwreck. And if you fancy a breather at any point, you can head for the upper deck to soak up the sunshine and panoramic views over Sal's coast.

In the village of Palmeira, the youngest one from Sal, there is time to visit the centre and for some souvenir shopping. Next stop will be in Buracona, where the natural pool is rounded of volcanic lava, you may have the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful sights on the island - the blue eye - depending on where the sun is, the waters of this seaside lava cave light up to look like a vivid blue eye.
This trip is Boa Vista in a nutshell. You’ll start the morning with a drive to Cabo Santa Maria. In 1968, a transport ship ran aground a few miles off the coast here, and you can still see the skeleton of its hull. It’s a pretty eerie sight. The remains look like a rusty carcass that’s been gnawed and mauled by the waves. Your next stop will be Rabil. Once the island’s capital, this city has a different significance today – it’s the epicentre of Boa Vista’s pottery industry. You can visit a few of the ceramics workshops and pick up plates and bowls made by artisans. From here, you’ll head inland to see the desert-scape that stretches for 8 kilometres across the centre of the island. The white sands here are whipped into Mr Whippy-style dunes. Before the trip ends, you’ll spend some time on Santa Monica Beach. Tourism hasn’t touched down on this strip of sand. What’s more, it’s known as one of the top 5 beaches in the world.
Get a snapshot of what sun-baked Sal is all about on this half-day minibus tour. We'll start at Palmeira, a pretty west coast port. Its name means ‘palm tree' and its cobbled streets are lined with them, along with brightly painted shops, markets and mural-covered cafes. Then it's back on the bus for Buracona, a lagoon-filled cave lashed by Atlantic surf. When the sun reaches a certain point, its waters glow in a luminous ‘blue eye' effect that look supernatural. After that, it's on to Terra Boa, famous for its mirages. With luck you'll see its desert plains shimmer like water, creating what looks like an ocean in the sands. Next up is the capital, Espargos, in the heart of the island. Stop for drinks and some souvenir shopping before continuing to the Pedra de Lume salt lakes. Lining an extinct caldera, these glittering lakes will have you snapping photos non-stop. If you wish, you can take a dip - their waters are so full of salt that you'll float just like in the Dead Sea.
