The remnants of an old lead and silver mine in the village Padež show that the Laško area was rich in mines. Padež is a small village in the hills south of Borovnica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. In the Polhova jama pit, the ore was probably mined in the time of Maria Theresa. The preserved mine shafts unfold stories about the life and work of miners in the past.

They founded a monastery which is one of the oldest Central European Carthusian monasteries. Some remains of the former monastery still survive today: the Church of St. Maurice, part of the wall and a defensive tower. The church features a remarkable octangular stone bell tower.

The house of the ballad and romance poet reveals a rich heritage of Anton Aškerc and characteristic architectural features of the house. Today, the Aškerc family uses sustainable methods of rearing sheep and produces sheep cheeses.

The family house of legendary Slovene poet Anton Aškerc (1856 - 1912) in the village of Senožete near Rimske Toplice is not only open for tourists, but actually run by the poet's own grandnephew, who has turned the premises into a museum.
Visitors can purchase various agricultural products made on the farm and see displays of Aškerc's work as well as some traditional furnishings such as a black kitchen, which were commonly used in Slovenia during his life. Best known for his epic poems and romantic ballads, the grounds and area surrounding the house have also been restored and are appropriately worthy of a contemplative stroll after viewing the exhibition.
The heritage of beekeeping in Slovenia has a rich and long tradition. The Laško beekeepers will be happy to show you their apiaries and tell you about the life of bees and their products. The Laško Municipality has been awarded the title of a “bee-friendly municipality”.
