Since its re-opening, the Colosseum underground has become the sight to see in Rome. Once the domain of gladiators and animals, the air here still fizzles with electricity – as it does on the reconstructed arena floor. Get away from the tourists to truly experience the Colosseum on this VIP tour.

During special access sections of the tour, you’ll travel with a guard who will open gates to grant you and max 23 other guests (two groups are combined during these sections) exclusive entrance to the underground, arena floor and upper third tier. Enjoy this rare sense of peace and delve deeper into the tragic past of this iconic structure led by an expert guide.

Of course you’ll get a full tour of regular access areas of the Colosseum too; including the first and second levels. Then it’s on to the Roman Forum where you’ll dip into the political history of Ancient Rome. This is where Julius Caesar once led his triumphant armies in parade, and where successive emperors plotted the growth of Rome.

For those with an interest in history, the Palatine Hill is an unexpected highlight. Vastly under-rated, it’s much quieter up here on the hill where your guide will point out the ruins of the world’s first palaces – in fact our own word ‘palace’ originates from right here, on the Palatine Hill.

With small groups of only 12 people or fewer and archaeologists for tour guides, your tour is guaranteed to be an a fascinating exploration of Roman history and storytelling – not to mention the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of gladiators!

Meeting/pick-up point: In front of the Colosseo metro stop (Blue Line) on the street level next to the magazine kiosk, not the upper level. Directly across the street from the Colosseum. From Termini Station, take the Blue Line metro toward Laurentina and get off at the stop "Colosseo”.
