The Algarve has much to offer it’s visitors – a wonderful climate, golden beaches, tree-cloaked mountains, cosmopolitan resorts…..Less well known perhaps is the fact that the Algarve is also one of Europe’s most fascinating areas from an ecological perspective.
We propose an unforgettable visit to a salt pan where you will be able to see how the finest salt in Portugal is produced.
Be ready to be dazzled by the brightness of the neat rows of salt pans that constitute an age-old tradition in the area and that produce the finest table salt in Portugal. Beyond these, you can appreciate the natural beauty of the Ria Formosa estuary, a wide expanse of canals, marshlands and sand banks that provide shelter to numerous species of migrating birds. This park is one of the most impressive in Europe with a rich and varied flora and fauna.
Next stop is Olhão - a traditional fishing village, renowned for the cube-shaped white-washed houses, contrasting with the golden sands and the blue sky and sea. Here you have an opportunity to explore the famous market with its huge selection of fish.
After visiting the market in Olhão it is time to recharge your batteries enjoying a typical lunch in a Restaurant, where you will be delighted with the freshness of the fish served!
After lunch, you will pass by a tiny, traditional fishing village - Santa Luzia. There you will see the pots used to catch octopus - an ingenious device!
Next stop is Tavira - the queen of the Algarve coastal towns. See the Arab fortress, the Roman Bridge dating from the IV century and visit at least some of the towns 22 churches!
Your final stop will be at a small village in the countryside to visit an olive oil mill, where you will be able to learn the secrets of its production, followed by a taste of this exquisite produce!
