As the day is drawing to a close and the light begins to dim, we leave Frankfurt and travel through the romantic valley of the River Rhine to Ru¨desheim am Rhein, the most famous of all the old wine villages. Here, the town is alight with Christmas lights and joy, and you can join in the festivities as well. The picturesque lanes, yards, courts and places are decorated with stalls selling all the Christmassy things you could wish for: crafts, ceramics, candles and glass art as well as the tempting aromas of ginger bread, cakes, hot mulled wine and delicious regional specialities on offer.
