When the gates close for the night, we bring you inside to hear the story of the Colosseum’s construction and the hair-raising tales of the brutal gladiator games that it hosted to the delight of the Roman populace. You’ll feel like an ancient spectator as you roam the nearly deserted stands and learn about how thousands piled into the seats to cheer on fantastic blood sports in the arena below.

Next, you’ll step into the sandals of a gladiator and head down into the Colosseum Underground, where people and animals were kept in cells before being released up into the arena to kill or be killed. This area is only accessible on pre-booked tours, and a night visit offers you the most exclusive experience available.

From the underground level you’ll ascend to the arena floor where you can see the entire Colosseum as a gladiator would have. This 360 degree vantage point is not available to general access visitors and is easily the most spectacular view of the entire building.
