Enjoy this unique four day adventure in a tour of the beautiful Lost City, discovered in 1976 by a team of archeologists from the Instituto Colombiano de Antropología, led by Gilberto Cadavid and Luisa Fernanda Herrera.
Recent (2006) archeological investigations of the site indicate that the town was founded around 660 A.C. and was abandoned at some point between the years 1550 and 1600 A.C. It is one of the 250 Tayrona communities that have been discovered in the north and southwest side of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Come and live this wonderful experience, get to know our culture.
In the surroundings, another 26 communities have been discovered, and some places have even been used to perform archeological activities along the Cerro Correa, on the north side of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, on the border of the Buritaca River. It is known as Teyuna by the natives of the area, hence the name: Parque Arqueológico Ciudad Perdida –Teyuna (Teyuna Lost City Archeological Park). This beautiful place has impressive constructions, unbelievable stone paths, stairs and walls, linked by a series of terraces and platforms over which ceremonial centers were built.
The structures discovered so far occupy an area of approximately 35 acres. Since its discovery, it has been managed by the Instituto Colombiano de Antropología as a National Archeology Park.
