A crystal-clear sea, jagged mountains, and fruitful valleys are what you’ll find along the pretty Dubrovnik coast and Konavle. On this Dubrovnik tour, you’ll dive into the green region of Konavle, which hides a magnificent but turbulent history that still can be felt today. We’ll start your tour to the south of the city, in Cavtat. We’ll get a feel for the area at a great lookout spot above Konavle and Cavtat, before we come back down to the earth and dive into the past!
We’ll visit a fairy tale-like ancient fort that sits on a cliff 25 metres high and overlooks the Konavle area. Its name, Sokol Kula, means “Falcon Fort,” and they say that the views it offers rival those of a falcon soaring through the skies! The fort dates back to the Illyrians and Romans, and has been renovated in recent years.
On your tour, you’ll get to explore the fort, which features archaeological relics such as medieval weapons and decorative jewels. From there, your Dubrovnik tour will take you closer to the valleys and the river Ljuta that flows through the fields of Konavle. Close to the river, you’ll get to visit a system of water and stamp mills that were built about 400 years ago. You’ll hear about the history and see how they still work just like they did hundreds of years ago. We’ll finish off our Konavle tour with some local refreshments. You’ll get to taste homemade ham and cheese, and, of course some local wines and liqueurs.
