Información

Visit the eerie and historical battlefields of Isandlwana and then Rorke’s Drift, rich in Anglo-Zulu war history, where two of the most famous battles fought between the Zulu and British armies took place. Let your imagination paint mental pictures of the battle scenes played out here. Historians will love it for sure, but if you enjoy a really great story, the Battlefields tour is for you too – it’s both a thriller and a drama.

Travel and storytelling blend seamlessly on this compelling journey to the historical Battlefields of KwaZulu-Natal. As you stand at the sites of the 22nd January 1879 Battle of Isandlwana and the subsequent skirmish at Rorke’s Drift, your specialist Battlefield guide brings the account of 20 000 Zulu warriors armed with traditional weapons confronting British firepower vividly to life. The guide recaptures the atmosphere of each battle and provides in-depth information about the military strategies and tactics used.

The Battle of Isandlwana was the Zulus’ finest victory. The Zulus managed to wipe out a substantial British force including the 1st Battalion, 24th Foot, and their African allies, totalling over 1 300 men.

In the aftermath that followed – the Battle of Rorke's Drift – the British defeated the Zulus despite the low numbers of the British troops. The Zulu reserves raided the British border post at Rorke's Drift, where about 150 British and colonial troops were up against 3,000 to 4,000 Zulu warriors. The Battle of Rorke's Drift took place at Tugela River and ended the following day, 23 January. This battle was made famous in the film “Zulu”.
