The Battle of Isandlwana was the Zulus’ finest victory. The Zulus managed to wipe out a substantial British force including the 1st Battalion, 24th Foot, and their African allies, totalling over 1 300 men.

In the aftermath that followed – the Battle of Rorke's Drift – the British defeated the Zulus despite the low numbers of the British troops. The Zulu reserves raided the British border post at Rorke's Drift, where about 150 British and colonial troops were up against 3,000 to 4,000 Zulu warriors. The Battle of Rorke's Drift took place at Tugela River and ended the following day, 23 January. This battle was made famous in the film “Zulu”.
