Naples is like the lesser-known cousin of Venice and Rome. But, that doesn’t mean there’s less to see. This trip will give you an authentic slice of southern Italian life as you explore the churches, squares and legendary pizzerias. You’ll head into the UNESCO-rated city centre, where the first stops are Gesù Nuovo church, with its pyramid-covered frontage, and the Gothic Santa Chiara. Next, you’ll head to San Gregorio Armeno, or Christmas Alley – home to the nativity scene makers and their famous figurines. You can expect big things from lunch, as Naples is Italy’s pizza capital. Julia Roberts even tucked into a margherita here in 2010 film Eat Pray Love. After lunch, you can wander the Royal Palace, shop in swanky Galleria Umberto I, or visit San Carlo – the oldest active opera house in Europe. Before heading home, there’s time for cake and coffee at the famous Caffé Gambrinus, which boasts Oscar Wilde as a former customer.
