A visit to Istanbul is never complete without a boat cruise along the Bosphorous Strait which divides the city into two continents, Asia and Europe. Considered by many to be the most splendid and prosperous palace in the world, it contains about 40 tons of gold and silver and is adorned with priceless European Bohemian crystal chandeliers.
Ortakoy: now a trendy district on the shores of the Bosphorous, its large mosque nestles under the shadow of the Bosphorous Bridge.
Beyleybeyi Palace: on the Asian shores of the Bosphorous, it was an Imperial Ottoman summer residence dating from late 19th century.
Arnavutkoy & Bebek are 2 popular, upmarket districts on the shores of the Bosphorous with lovely examples of "yalis" - prestigious summer houses for the Ottoman elite.
Rumeli Hisar fortress: built in the mid-15th century.
