Former capital of the Portuguese Kingdom and the city where the forbidden love story took place between Inês de Castro and Dom Pedro I, one cannot visit Portugal without visiting the beautiful Coimbra. On this tour you will be able to firsthand witness all of its history and stories, as we explore the city. Let the guide enchant you with stories and anecdotes about the locations we visit.
First, we’ll visit the little fishing town of Costa Nova. Embrace the vibrant colours of the haystacks built for the fishermen in the 19th Century, decorated in stripes to welcome in the sea. You’ve never seen anything quite like it! Next we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch in a local restaurant, to really grasp the flavors and tastes of the landscape.
Next, we’ll visit the Museum of Aveiro, a convent famously known as the place were Princess Joana led her life as a saint and is nowadays brimming with fascinating art and architecture, thanks to its renovations between the 16th to 18th Century. Feel the history which took place here in this previously religious building.
This trip would not be complete without a relaxing ride on a “Moliceiro” boat, cruising down the canals which crisscross all over the city and all come together at the lagoon. They don’t call Aveiro the Venice of Portugal for nothing! What better way to see the sights than from an elegant little boat?
Last but not least, we’ll visit Portugal’s oldest academic institution, the University of Coimbra. With such beautiful historic buildings, UNESCO claimed them as a World Heritage in 2013. This site is loved by both students and tourists alike thanks to its iconic monuments and history. The coach will now take you back to the hotel.
