Winding its way to the sea from Köycegiz Lake, the Dalyan River is home to freshwater turtles. And the nearer it gets to Iztuzu beach, its waters also sometimes play host to rare Caretta-carretta, or loggerhead, turtles. With a little luck on this trip, you’ll get to see both species of these graceful creatures. Leaving early morning, your boat will waft along the river, floating by reedbeds towards Iztuzu and the coast. Keep your eyes peeled for the river turtles along the way. They often swim up to boats looking for food and the clear waters make it easy to see them. And as you reach Iztuzu beach, you might glimpse some of the prized Caretta-carrettas that nest on its protected sands. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so have your camera handy. After your turtle watching, you’ll visit a turtle rescue centre, before returning to your hotel.
