This trip gives you a glimpse into Greek Orthodox life. You’ll explore Kykkos monastery, the largest and most lavish religious institution in Cyprus. It’s set high in the hills west of the Troodos Mountains, and was founded about 900 years ago to house the Elousa icon, reputedly painted by St Luke the Evangelist. The icon is so holy, legend has it that anyone who attempts to gaze at it will be instantly blinded. The monastery is renowned for its colonnaded cloisters, pretty courtyards and rainbow-coloured mosaics. Plus, it’s surrounded by peaceful villages that look just like they did centuries ago. A traditional Cypriot lunch is included in this day out.
