Take a trip just beyond the candy-colored buildings of the Art Deco district to the must-see museum and garden, Villa Vizcaya, where the early days of the Magic City are beautifully preserved in the architecture and spirit. Come visit this must-see Miami location!
Located just minutes from Downtown Miami, Villa Vizcaya was once the winter residence of industrialist James Deering, of the Deering McCormick-International Harvester fortune, and was designed as a palatial Italian Villa on tropical Biscayne Bay. He filled it with European art, state of the art technology and surrounded it with beautiful gardens that will transport you back to a golden age 100 years ago. Deering used Vizcaya as his winter residence from 1916 until his death in 1925. The Estate is now known officially as the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, which consists of 50 acres with the villa and the gardens, and the remaining native forest. The estate is a total of 50 acres, of which 10 acres contain the Italian Renaissance formal gardens, and 40 acres are circulation and the jungle forest. The villa's museum contains more than seventy rooms of distinctive architectural interiors decorated with numerous antiques, with an emphasis on 15th through early 19th century European decorative art and furnishings.
