The Summer Palace – first built in 1750, largely destroyed in the war of 1860 and restored on its original foundations in 1886 – Located about 20 kilometers northwest of the city center, Originally was used as a summer residence for the royal family in Qing Dynasty. The Summer Palace is one of a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design and was listed as one of the World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
