Información

Ronda has been a favourite with artists and writers for years – Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles both spent summers seeking inspiration in the hilltop town. It straddles a dramatic canyon, with the Moorish old quarter on one side and the more modern town opposite. You’ll have a couple of hours to explore – visit the 18th-century castle, peek inside Santa Maria La Mayor Church and snap a few photos from the old, honey-coloured bridge that links the two halves of the town. Our time in Ronda is sandwiched between visits to two postcard-pretty pueblo blancos. The houses in these ‘white villages’ are textbook Andalucia, with terracotta-tiled roofs, balconies spilling over with flowers and, of course, whitewashed walls. First up is Zahara de la Sierra. The village clings to a hillside and features a 16th-century watchtower and a Baroque church. Second is Grazalema, where you’ll find cobbled streets, a restaurant-lined plaza and textiles workshops.
