Snorkelling in La Jolla is unlike snorkelling anywhere else in Southern California, and it presents the ultimate way to experience this incredible area. Learn to identify a wide variety of wildlife and explore secret spots you wouldn’t find otherwise.
La Jolla Leopard Shark Snorkel Tour - Explore the sandy flats and sand dollar beds, and swim over the kelp reefs to look for lobster, rays, the occasional sea turtle, and the unique 5-foot shovel nose guitar fish. Swim amongst dozens of harmless leopard sharks congregated in the shallows at La Jolla Shores, and enjoy an up-close experience you won’t soon forget. Tour is approximately 1.5 hours. Participants must be 8 years or older and must be able to swim. No experience necessary, but tour requires moderate swimming ability.
La Jolla Cove and Sea Caves Snorkel Tour - Swim through the caves (conditions permitting) and see an incredible array of fish, harmless leopard sharks, rays, diving birds, and even sea lions. Tour is approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. Participants must be 11 years or older and must be able to swim.
Tours are held daily from May through November. Availability is subject to snorkeling conditions. Meeting location is at La Jolla Shores shop. Free parking is available on side streets. Please arrive 30 minutes before tour time to check in and get fitted for equipment. Please contact the supplier for up-to-date information on tour times and meeting locations, as they vary and are subject to change without notice. Tours include full or half wetsuit (if desired), snorkel, mask, and fins. Swimsuits or board shorts are recommended. Contact lenses are suggested as eye glasses will not fit under snorkel mask. Small lockers are available.
Areas explored will depend on the ability of the group. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Guides are expert naturalists with backgrounds in marine biology, ecology, environmental science photography, and outdoor recreation, and hold advanced certifications in kayak and snorkel instruction, and CPR/First Aid.
