Información

Learn all about the history and manufacturing process of silk in the traditional town of Hoi An. Silk is a beautiful, luxurious fibre made from the cocoons of silkworms; so smooth it’s almost liquid, mercurial. On this tour you will live a variety of sensations and experiences, from educational speeches to hands-on activities, all in relation to the finest of all textiles.

Your tour begins in the ancient house Quang Nam. Inside it is gathered a collection of 100 Ao Dai – the local term for “dresses” – and other traditional costumes from the 54 different ethnic groups that compose Vietnam. Enjoy a comfortable stroll through the lush mulberry garden, a perfect entourage for learning about the history of silk in Vietnamese culture. Discover, as well, the various types of mulberry used in Vietnam. Mulberries are important in the silk industry because their leaves constitute the whole extent of a silkworm’s diet.

Enter the silkworm breeding house and get an insight into the lives of these ephemeral creatures. You will see upfront how to unravel a cocoon to be made into a single silk thread. After learning about the creation of thread, observe Champa women using old-fashioned looms to produce silk textiles.

The tour’s finale consists in a demonstration on how to distinguish between real silk and an imitation. Visit the showroom where you can have a dress or suit custom designed for you by expert tailors. Wrap up the experience by lounging in the mulberry garden and feasting on a traditional meal.
