Longsheng is located just over 2 hours drive from Guilin. It is home to numerous ethnic minorities and the famous rice terraces. Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces (Longji rice terraces) are named so as they are said to resemble a dragon’s scales. These rice terraces were first built in the Yuan Dynasty to make best use of the scarce arable land and water resources.
