Spend a day sampling the old and the new Shanghai has to offer, a mix of modern sights and historical sights of the city. The tour will visit the French Concession of Shanghai: established in 1849, it was first a settlement for the French it was expanded in the early 20th Century with residents of other nationalities. It is said that the French Concession is the essence of old Shanghai with the area still retaining its distinct character.
This is followed by a visit to the Yu Garden, also known as the Garden of Contentment. Built in the Ming Dynasty, it is a classical Chinese garden with dragon-lined walls separating various garden areas and pavilions. The Bund is a famous waterfront area and a ‘must see’ attraction in Shanghai. Here one can see a glimpse of the old Shanghai with many of its famous colonial buildings lining the Huangpu River.
A visit to the Shanghai City Planning Exhibition allows one to get a better understanding of the development of the city. The tour ends at Hengshan Road, a well-known and popular bar and restaurant area. Lunch at a local restaurant is included.
