We start this tour with a drive to Queen Sirikit Botanical Gardens. This is the national botanical garden of Thailand. Visit the impressive greenhouse with its rainforest, arid, aquatic and orchids and ferns houses. Choose one or two of the four nature trails, the arboretum, climber, medicinal plants or waterfall and ornamental beds trail. These gardens aim to preserve the invaluable plant resources of the country.
We then drive to Mon Cham. In this area there are several traditional Hmong villages. The Hmong used to grow opium at Mon Cham. The nearby Nong Hoi Royal Project was launched in the 1960’s to persuade the Hmong to stop the cultivation of opium and grow cash crops such as strawberries and plums instead. Mon Cham is now an “agro-tourist” attraction for its highland agriculture as well as for its fantastic views in all directions. In these amazing surroundings we will have lunch.
After lunch we drive to Dok Mai Garden, a private botanical garden. We take the scenic Samoeng loop and there you will have many occasions of obtaining the perfect shot. Biologist Dr Eric Danell and his Thai family live in this 4 hectare (10 acres) botanical garden. Dr. Eric will be your guide during the visit of the garden that contains more than 1000 species of trees and plants. Admire the many hardwood trees, fruit trees and ornamental plants.
