A memorable day into the countryside, brand-new for this winter. Sunshine Valley is the popular name for the fertile Guadalhorce area, just a short distance inland. Its excellent climate makes it the perfect place for growing citrus fruit. You’ll be able to enjoy the lovely scenery in a relaxed train ride which starts in the centre of Malaga.
The most picturesque part is reached at the end of your train journey. Between the tunnels, you’ll catch glimpses of a spectacular gorge with sheer walls towering up to 400m. The canyon was in fact used to film Frank Sinatra’s Von Ryan’s Express. At the station, the bus will be waiting to take you to a local village so you can enjoy a coffee in the main square. The scenic journey will take you past picturesque nature reserve with turquoise coloured waters pine-clad hills to the village of Casarabonela, which boasts one of Europe’s largest cactus collections. At the botanical gardens you will find out all about these fascinating plants and enjoy a light lunch whilst enjoying picture-postcard views of the nearby white houses and church spires.
On your way back to the coast there’s a final stop at a citrus farm, for many the highlight of the trip. Your host is Juanito, a real local character. Here you can taste all the fruit to your heart’s content during an interactive tour, with plenty of laughs included. Back at the farmhouse, you’ll learn all about the special properties of the aloe vera plant and make your own aloe vera soap to take home as a special souvenir.
