Ephesus was one of the greatest and most important cities of the ancient world. Today, it is one of the best-preserved antique cities. The great theatre with a capacity of 24,000 people and the Celcus Library are just some of the features that draw people here. Perhaps most famous of all though are the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. The village of Şirince, meanwhile, is home to tiers of pretty, traditional houses stacked up on the hillside, surrounded by vineyards and aromatic peach groves. It was once known as Cirkince - meaning ugly - until the villagers changed the name to reflect the reality of this picturesque hilltop haven.
