The period production of Mozart’s most popular opera is the result of a cooperative effort with the National Heritage Institute in Pardubice and the Académie Desprez. The end result recreates the atmosphere of the opera’s world première, which took place on 29 October 1797 at the very same Czech Opera House - Estates Theatre.

Not only did the Maestro conduct his masterpiece himself, he also played the harpsichord accompaniment. Therefore the Estates Theatre is also called “Mozart´s theatre. The stage direction, combined with the period decorations, including the lighting that calls to mind the options available at the end of the eighteenth century, recreate the authenticity of the opera’s production as it was probably first presented. The performance is one of the best cultural events in Prague.
