A full day tour of the spectacular region of Cappadocia, famed for its’ lunar landscape. The tour begins with a visit to Pigeon Valley. You can admire the multicoloured rock formations of the famous Pigeon Valley, and Uchisar’s picturesque fairy chimneys.
Göreme is located among the “fairy chimney” rock formations, a town in Cappadocia created from volcanic rocks; these chimney-shaped rocks are the result of erosion made by natural factors over the centuries. The area has also been an important religious place and underwent intensive emigration of the first Christians. You will see its magnificent Valley Scenery Views of Swords Valley, Love Valley, Red Valley and Zelve Mountain.
Göreme Open Air Museum where you can see several churches built into caves by Christians between the 10th and 13th centuries. In the museum you have a chance to visit Sakli Church, Kilislar Churh, St Basil Church, Yilanli Church, St Catherine’s Chapel and Çarikli (Sandal) Church and the monks’ refectory, tombs, cellars and larders.
The next stop is in Pasabag where you can see mushroom-like fairy-chimneys with multiple caps and stems situated in the middle of a vineyard. Then walk through Pasabaglar, used to be known as Valley of Monks before moving on to Avanos, a small town known for its Handcrafts which are an important part of the local culture. Situated by the river of Kizilirmak, or as it was known in ancient times: Halys River, it's famous for its ceramics, guests have an opportunity to try making the pottery here before lunch at a local restaurant.
After Lunch, you will be able to see Devrent Valley, and also Zelve Valley, known for its’ rock formations, with one resembling a camel.
The last stop is at Kaymakli Underground City; there are more than 100 Underground cities in Cappadocia, once used by the local people to hide from marauding armies. In these days only 4 of them are open to the public. We visit one of them to experience life thousands years ago; the number of storage rooms in such a small area supports the idea that a great number of people resided here. Archeologists think that this could have been up to 3500 people.
