Albania may only be a short boat ride from Corfu, but exploring this often overlooked country is like stepping foot into another world. You see, for years Albania was closed to outsiders and it’s only now really beginning to flex its tourist muscles. And it’s got a lot to offer. The tour kicks off in the pretty port of Saranda where you’ll have time to explore the town and have lunch. Then it’s on to the World Heritage Site of Butrint. In ancient times Butrint was a major trade point. And over the centuries the Greeks, Romans and Ottomans all left their mark on this archaeological treasure. So much so, that walking through its ruins is like leafing through the pages of a living history book. Highlights include the amphitheatre and temple. Rounding off the day is a woodland walk up to a hill fort where there are jaw-dropping views over to Greece. This is a great way to learn about another country and culture during your holiday.
