As you make your way from Amman to the Ajlun Castle, take in the awe-inspiring scenery of your trip. Upon your arrival to the castle, perched high atop a lush green hill, you'll have an amazing view into the city and valley below. Built in 1184, remark at this fine example of Islamic architecture. Once having dominated a wide stretch of the northern Jordan Valley and passages to it, learn about the historical importance of this stone fortress.
Continuing your day, you'll move on to Um Qais. This fascinating ancient creation is also located on a splendid hilltop overlooking the expanse of the Jordan Valley and the Sea of Galilee. These impressive remains will fill you with wonder as you explore the stunning black basalt theatre, the basilica and the adjacent courtyard filled with carvings of black sarcophagi. The main street is lined with colonnades and the side street with shops. Visit the underground mausoleum, baths, the city gate, and the faint outlines of what was a massive hippodrome, before making your return trip.
