This full-day excursion combines 3 highlights: Aix en Provence, city of water and art, Cassis and the wild Calanques, and Marseille, the 2nd largest city in France.
Walk with your guide on the Cours Mirabeau lined with 17th and 18th centuries private mansions, where large plane trees give shade on hot summer days. The old town is packed with shops, architectural and religious sites, bustling squares and refreshing fountains. Take a stroll through one of the numerous markets taking place every day in the center of the city. Aix is also the birthplace of the painter Paul Cézanne. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Cézanne's studio that was built from his own plans and where time seems to stand still (entrance ticket not included).
Continue toward Cassis. Appreciate the exceptional view on the bay from Cape Canaille. Cassis is a very ancient fishing port and the harbour is probably the most beautiful part of the village. You will board on a 45-minute boat trip (ticket included) to discover 3 Calanques, steep-walled coves with tiny harbours or beaches at the end.
Panoramic tour of the city of Marseille on the way back, including a photo stop at Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica. From this hill, enjoy a breathtaking view on the Phocaean city, the Frioul islands and If Castle. You will then reach Saint-Victor abbey (11th century) that keeps the entry of the Vieux-Port (Old Port). Free time for lunch (not included) on your own during the day.
