Xochimilco is an ancient tangle of canals cocooned by juniper tree forests and water lilies. Once upon a time, gondola-like boats known as trajineras sailed these waters, transporting flowers, fruit and vegetables from traditional floating gardens. These days, the trajineras are reserved for lively boat cruises. On this tour, we’ll pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Xoximilco. Once there, you’ll be whisked off on a guided cruise around the canals on one of the brightly-coloured boats. Each one is decorated with motifs from the 32 Mexican states, including patterned flags and hand-carved archways. During the cruise, you’ll have the chance to dig in to a typical Mexican dinner and sample things like tequila and local beer at the open bar. Live local mariachi bands and folk-style jarocho groups provide the soundtrack, giving the whole cruise the feel of a fiesta.
