See the best there is to see in a city that boasts thousands of temples, shrines and gardens.
HIGHLIGHTS:
* Be dazzled by the golden Kinkaku-ji Temple
* Sip a green tea in the gardens of Shoren-in Temple
* Rare chance to tour the inside of Yasaka-no-To Pagoda
We start on a peaceful note at the Shimogamo Shrine; surrounded by forest, this quiet and mystical temple will make you forget you’re in a city and is a great place to contemplate the history and spirit of Kyoto. Then head to the striking Kinkaku-ji Temple, known as the Golden Pavilion for its sparkling golden exterior, whose wooden architecture is covered in thin layers of pure gold, surrounded by a beautiful lake. Take a break and have a local lunch in a restaurant in Kitayama, before restarting your leisurely tour of Kyoto.
With close links to the Imperial Family, Kyoto boasts many royal monuments such as the refined Shore-in Temple. Enjoy an unhurried walk around its garden and sip on a green tea, soaking in the surroundings. Next, we are granted exclusive access to the inside of Hokan-ji Temple (Yasaka-no-To Pagoda) – a landmark of Higashiyama. Climb up to the second level and admire its interior in a rare opportunity that many people don’t get to enjoy. Afterwards, walk through historic Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka pedestrian streets towards Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The view over Kyoto from here is awe-inspiring with its historic shopping lane adding a final touch of charm to this full day tour.
